Boston, MA (PRWEB) November 5, 2004 - Netriplex (www.netriplex.com), a leading provider of anti-spam technology, today began offering its PhishFraud detection service to banking, credit card and online retail customers worldwide. "Phishing" emails are a form of spam that attempt to fool recipients into divulging personal financial data, account usernames and passwords, and social security numbers. There is no charge for this service which utilizes the anti-fraud technology featured in Netriplex’s business-class spam filtering solution.

"When phishing scams began to erupt through email, Netriplex engineers developed the anti-fraud technology that effectively protects all of our anti-spam clients," said Jonathan Hoppe, Chief Technology Officer at Netriplex. "Now that phishing attacks are doubling every month and costing U.S. consumers nearly $3 billion per year, we want to make that technology available free to the public through our PhishFraud.com detection service. Any recipient of a suspicious email may check its validity by simply clicking the forward button in their email software and sending it to the PhishFraud.com service. Within a few minutes they will receive an automated response informing them whether the email should be trusted or not. Businesses can go one step further and sign up for Netriplex's free business-class spam filtering email service which automatically implements the anti-fraud technology for all of their email."

Unique phishing blasts that pretend to be from well-known banks and other trusted institutions now number in the thousands per month, resulting not only in theft of money but also in theft of identity. Data suggests that up to 5% of recipients respond to them, and some 3% of those targeted by phishers reveal personal information, according to a study released in April by the Gartner research firm. Legislators and enforcement officers are working hard to halt these intrusive scams, but technology-based protection like Netriplex’s PhishFraud.com is essential for consumers and businesses to avoid being swindled.

The sophistication of phishing attacks is increasing dramatically. For example, the new "no-click" phishing scam uses a hidden script to redirect its unwitting victims to a fraudulent website designed to capture their log-in details. Such schemes are growing almost daily. Consumers can avoid being conned by these and other phishing attacks by reading the tips on PhishFraud.com and by testing any suspicious email through the PhishFraud.com service.

In today’s world where both businesses and consumers use email for banking, credit card payments, online purchases and much more, spam and fraud require an exceptional solution to ensure that customers’ time, money and identities are fully protected from unscrupulous information theft. Netriplex’s anti-fraud technology—available in both its Email Management Solutions and its free PhishFraud.com Detection Service—is the most effective response available as Netriplex spam and phishing experts monitor the global network 24/7/365 and update their databases every few minutes to protect their clients.

Netriplex officially launched its anti-spam and anti-virus solution in January 2004 after more than two years of research and development. During the last ten months of service Netriplex has received an overwhelming response from businesses who are being buried by the ever-growing amount of spam, phishing attempts and virus outbreaks. Because the Email Management Solution can be 100% effective, companies can see the complete elimination of spam, viruses and phishing attacks within a matter of days, quickly bringing a significant return on investment.

Phishing forecast good and bad
Internet and financial services companies believe they'll eventually conquer phishing. That's when a fraudster sends e-mails designed to lure consumers to fake Web sites where they're asked to divulge personal data. The phishing growth rate is already leveling, according to a new report from the Anti-Phishing Working Group, a private sector association. However, phishing may soon be upstaged by more sophisticated frauds, pharming and crimeware.

Microsoft ups release of phishing filter
REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- U.S. software firm Microsoft Corp.'s so-called phishing filter for its Internet Explorer browser will be released sooner than expected. The software giant will issue a preliminary version of its new security feature sometime in the coming weeks as a free add-on for its MSN Toolbar in the current Internet Explorer 6 browser, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Wednesday. In a phishing attack, people get e-mails purporting to come from legitimate banking or e-commerce operations that point to Web sites where identity thieves ask for personal information. Microsoft said its phishing filter can detect known and potential phishing sites and warn off users. News Source: www.menafn.com
